About

Hello, my name is Krista

Veterinary Surgeon, Business Owner and Mom

As a full-time working mother, I started this blog for the exact opposite reason that most people start a blog. I am no expert on parenting, a master to none. This is an outlet for me to openly admit that on a daily basis, I have no idea what I’m doing other than trying to survive. I am on the elusive quest for a perfect work-life balance, where “mom guilt” doesn’t exist.  In writing this, I am hoping to connect with others, who just like me, may need to connect with someone where there is no judgement. I can offer anecdotes on what I’ve learned as a mother and a business professional, trying to manage a career at the same time as I manage a household. In exchange, I hope to get advice and feedback from those of you who are currently in or have survived life in the trenches.

My life is self-described ‘organized chaos’, often times comical and mostly rewarding.  I grew up in New York. These roots have shaped my not so subtle, often sarcastic, personality. My educational pursuits have taken me from Virginia to Kansas, then Minnesota and California. Along the way, I picked up a husband and acquired a few pets. In 2013, we settled in Austin, Texas for my career as a veterinarian. I am one of the fortunate few who legitimately loves their profession. However, in 2017 I got the maternal itch for children with two legs, rather than four, and we had our daughter. Eighteen months later we welcomed our son. During this time frame, my professional responsibilities have continued to grow as I have advanced in leadership roles at my practice.

So here I am… Trying to work like I don’t have children and trying to raise my children like I don’t work. Welcome to my journey.

Cast of Characters

Travis

My devoted husband and the glue that holds this family together. He spends his days running our household and raising the children. His nights and weekends are dedicated to operating his landscape lighting business, Outdoor Living Enhancements. He recently added Editor-in-Chief of this blog to his resume. In exchange for his help, I have agreed to allow him to add commentary from his perspective on certain posts.

Gracelyn

My first born, a daughter in her Terrible Twos. Her strong personality has her reigning a dictatorship over her younger brother and our dogs. She’s already a little fashionista with a love for shoes and her favorite past times include any activity that involves being outside, music or Elmo.

Jameson

My baby boy who spends his days eating and sleeping. Crying and spitting up are among his favorite past times, but he has a smile that could melt anyone’s heart.
